Welcome to
Rosalie's
Medieval Woman
As
far back as the 13th century there are records of the Gilbert name being
linked to goldsmithing,
the production of cloth and
clothing and so it's no wonder that researching and making medieval clothing
is a great passion of mine! I belong to an historical re-enactment group-
Eslite d'Corp and am a member of QLHF.
What is there to see here? All you need to know about the medieval woman:
what she wears, how to be beautiful according to medieval standards and
a bit about what she does. There's also information on historical re-enactment
as a hobby and information about my own clothes and accessories.
To know more about medieval material names or just what garments were
called? Visit the fabrics
page or the medieval glossary.
Making your own proper medieval clothing? Check out making
medieval clothes which looks at interpreting historical art
to get your information. Many of the pages in the index have sub-directories,
so make sure you have a good look around! Want to know where to get the
things you need? I recommend everyone on the where
to shop page, most of whom can be found in the marketplace
at the Abbey
Medieval Tournament each July in Caboolture.
I hand-stitch reproduction garments, some of which can be seen on display
in libraries around the Caboolture region at tournament time. I'm a big
fan of tiny stitches and neat eyelet holes. I love fabrics and embellishments
and attention to detail. I enjoy researching garments and love nothing
more than a spirited debate on where seams go and where they don't go.
For
those wondering how to be more involved in the medieval world, visit the
historical re-enactment
page and find a group near you!
And just for fun, if you're looking for medieval
icons for your online journal or avatar, check these out.
Feel free to use them but please credit me.
