the Medieval Stallholder Clothing help

If you are a stallholder at a medieval tournament or faire, perhaps you require clothing but do not wish for expensive, high-quality reproduction clothing and lack the skill and enthusiasm to make them yourself.

You still need clothes which will look great, cost little, are machine washable and are functional enough to work in for the duration of the event. This section addresses your specific needs and answers some questions and covers some of the common mistakes and how to avoid them.

The information here is not aimed at historical researchers or costumers. For those wishing to learn about accurate historical clothing and more about medieval women, visit Rosalie's Medieval Woman.

Stallholders, you will find information here on:

- WHAT TO WEAR - A quick run through on what you should be wearing as a woman, tradesman or merchant in a marketplace.

- HEADWEAR - You should be wearing something on your head. We'll have a look at your options here.

- FOOTWEAR - And what about shoes? What could you wear on your feet?

- CLOTHING IN MEDIEVAL ART - A look at who wears what in actual paintings and illuminations fromt he medieval period. This will give you an idea how you should look.

- MAKING BASIC PATTERNS - How to make your own very easy patterns involving rectangles and triangles and a whole lot of pins!

- COMMERCIAL PATTERNS - A look at what patterns are available in the shops or online and what is good and to be avoided about them. You may already have patterns at home which can be converted into something suitable!

- LINKS - Links to other websites which look at medieval clothing.
