Welcome
to
rosaliesmedievalwoman
What
is there to see here?
All you need to know about the medieval woman: what she wears, how to
be beautiful according to medieval standards, her personal hygiene and
a little about her life- celebrations, feasts and the customs associated
with births, marriages and deaths.
If you want to know more about medieval material, fur or colour names
visit the fabrics
page or to find out exactly what that what garment is called, try the
medieval glossary.
Making your own proper medieval clothing? Check out making
medieval clothes which looks at interpreting historical art
to get your information and how the clothing went together. Many of the
pages have sub-directories, so make sure you have a good look around!
The sitemap will
show you the entire website directory and the links
page has a good list of excellent online resources.
There's information about my own 14th
century re-enactment life- my clothes, my personal accessories,
my household goods and my sewing
gallery of clothing I used to have and have custom-made for
others.
If you're a historical re-enactor and want to know where to get the things
you need, I recommend everyone on the suppliers
page, many of whom can be found in the marketplace at the Abbey
Medieval Tournament each July in Caboolture. For those wondering
how to be more involved in the medieval world, visit the historical
re-enactment page and find a group near you! There are many
groups Australia-wide covering different time periods and focussing on
different aspects of historical life.
If you're a medieval stallholder looking for help with easy but appropriate
costuming ideas, there's loads of easy-to-understand information and patterns
at Rosalie's Stallholder
Clothing Help .
If you're really keen, check out the Rosalie's
Medieval Woman Live Journal, my blog where I talk about medieval
facts of life, current research, sewing projects, events I've attended
and books I'm reading and reviewing. Visit the Noticeboard
for upcoming events, appearances and website updates.
About
me
As far back as the 13th century there are records of the Gilbert name
being linked to goldsmithing, the production of cloth and clothing and
so it's no wonder that researching and making medieval clothing is a great
passion of mine!
I'm
a lifetime member of the Friends of the Abbey
Museum of Art and Archaeology where I spend as much time as
I can but never as much time as I want! I also belong to an historical
re-enactment group under the name Lady
Rosamund with Eslite d'Corp which focuses on the household
of an English knight, Sir Justyn Webb, in 1350 and am a member of the
Queensland
Living History Federation.
