About us

Ex Libris Living History is an educational space combining Rosalie's Medieval Woman, Medicina Historia and Brother Thomas of Merton Priory.

This Brisbane-based group focuses on lectures, talks, demonstrations and displays which tackle the modern myths about medieval people and their lives, especially in regard to health, hygiene, medicine, surgery, religion and other aspects of their intimate lives.

Artifacts, medieval manuscripts and texts provide material for our living history displays. These provide opportunities to focus on different but exciting times for medieval life.

Sometimes you'll see us in working class clothes going about our business like every day people in the middle ages, and other times you'll see us in our brightest and best upper class bling.

Ex Libris Living History has as its primary focus the 14th century, using the Bohun Psalter and the Ormesby Psalter as references although both medicine and religion expand substantially past these.

Our history.

Ex Libris Living History was originally formed in 2015 under the Ex Libris banner, where it mostly focussed on 14th and 15th century Europe and in a smaller way, 14th century England. It attended the Abbey Medieval Tournament and Festival and History Alive, A Journey Through Time for a number of years before a hiatus of several years, where founding members continued to be active in educational displays and talks in other directions.

Ex Libris Living History resurfaced in 2022 with a 14th century heart where we have attended further events including Phoenix Phestival, Victorian Medieval Faire and 1300-1600 Collegium as well as other regional medieval events.

Our activities can include research, religion, music, cooking, costuming, metal, ceramic, leather, and wood work and other traditional, historical skills. These activities can take place at public events, private living history and re enactment events, workshops or other online forums.

If you're interested in presenting 14th century life and have a specific topic which you're passionate about, you might like to contact us.
